Target Announces Recall of Gardening Tools

Target announced a voluntary recall of Chinese-made toy gardening tools and children’s lawn furniture because they contained “excessive levels of lead.”

The toys include the Happy Giddy Gardening Tools and Children’s Sunny Patch Chairs.

They were sold at Target stores nationwide between August 2006 and August 2007.

Parents should take the toys away from their children and return them to Target for a refund.

Thomas & Friends Toy Recall

Yesterday RC2 corp announced a toy recall that includes 5 toys from the Thomas & Friends toy line. The toys are:

-All-Black Cargo Car

-Toad Vehicle

-Olive Green Sodor Cargo Box

-All-Green Maple Tree Top (and signal base accessories)

Cargo cars sold in other sets are not included in the recall. RC2 also announced a separate recall of 800 of its “Knights of the Sword” toys for lead paint.

Harry Potter Broomstick Sweeping the Net Again

nimbus2000.jpgEveryone knows how big Harry Potter was back in ‘01 so this would have been a top toy. Until it was pulled from the shelves. The “problem” was that the toy vibrates. I somewhat understand that because who’d want a plain old broom? It would have to do something. They can’t make it really fly so the closest thing to simulating that is to make it vibrate. On the other hand I do understand the concern that parents would have because really it was a poor choice of a toy.

A review on Amazon:

This toy was #1 on my daughter’s Christmas list. So what the heck, although it has no sound effects and ***VIBRATES*** when they put it between their legs to fly. Come on—what were the creators of this toy thinking? She’ll keep playing with the Nimbus 2000, but with the batteries removed.

This is not a new story as it happened a few years ago, but it is an interesting one, and it appears to be sweeping the net again.

Not Another Recall

Tomorrow (Wednesday) Mattel will announce yet another toy recall.

The only details available so far is that it will be for a Fisher-Price toy and accessories to a Barbie play set.
